Mode of operation

Precise monitoring of temperature over long distance in structures and industrial processes. Solifos’ fiber optic sensor cables are suitable for measure temperatures in harsh environments where other methods are not possible. Temperature ranges from -180°C to +600°C are covered.

Industriehalle mit glühenden Stahlblöcken, die von Kranen bewegt werden, in einer hitzeintensiven Umgebung, die 'temperature control' Systeme zur Regulierung der extremen Temperaturen benötigt.

Properly designed sensor cables for the target temperature range are installed along the critical areas such that a change in temperature is immediately detected. Solifos’ optimal sensing cables balance toughness and sensitivity to deliver optimal performance.

Raman interrogators are utilized in applications where the temperature profile needs to be monitored. They not only fit the technical requirements, but are also the most economical.

Raman interrogators monitor the amplitude shift of both light frequencies of the transmitter. With the help of multi-mode fibers, they determine the temperature at every point along the fiber with an accuracy of 0.1°C. Not every application requires a temperature read-out. Often, observation of trends and alarm notification when configurable pre-sets are reached is adequate.

As fire detection is often done indoors, sensing cables for this application must fulfill the relevant flammable materials requirements (CPR-Classification).

Advantages

  • Extreme temperatures: Suitable for temperature windows between – 180 ° C and + 600 ° C

  • Long Distances: Monitoring structures of several tens of kilometers with just one sensor cable

  • Maintenance-free: Sensor cables are maintenance-free and guarantee decades of operation

Application Examples

Tunnel Monitoring

Solifos’ fiber optic sensing cables are commonly mounted in an easy to access location on the roof of the tunnel at 12 o’clock. This enables fire or heating in the tunnel to be detected and localized as quickly as possible. In many cases, other security systems including sprinklers, ventilation and fire doors are connected with the interrogator and can be controlled remotely.

Conveyor Belt Monitoring

Blocked rollers along a conveyor belt can cause additional costs or even fire which results in the destruction of either the goods transported or the transport equipment. Seamless, on-going monitoring of frictional energy is needed to localize rollers which are close to failure and initiate preventative maintenance to avoid costly downtime.

Fire protection in production facilities

Solifos’ fiber optic sensors are installed in all the critical areas in a production process including within a harsh acidic environment, in contaminated areas or tubes. Our specially shielded sensor cables are mounted in highly flammable and corrosive fluids in order to detect anomalies at the point of risk.
